We’re often preached that the “good” life is always happy, easy, effortless, fun. Your work shouldn’t feel like work, and if you’re a roller coaster of emotions, then you’re obviously not doing it right.
But that’s all wrong.
While often referred to as the “science of happiness,” the end-goal of positive psychology isn’t to be happy all the time. It goes way deeper. It’s about feeling the full range of emotions and acknowledging them as legitimate parts of our experience. It’s about giving yourself the permission to be human and imperfect. It’s about making changes that support your well-being and happiness.
My intention is to help you become whole. On the path to becoming whole and radically honest with yourself, you will become happier.
The bedrock of all of this is resilience: the ability to withstand the low points and fully recover, so you can remain healthy, present and fully functional no matter what life throws our way. Suppressing and resisting the emotional experiences only amplifies their effects. Leaning into the negative moments will make your positive experiences that much more incredible. When you learn how to work productively with the stress, it all becomes much more manageable. Spoiler alert: Stress isn’t as harmful as we were taught. Stress can be good for us, as long as we approach it positively, use it to our advantage and allow ourselves time to recover fully from it!
