Why Astrology Hit All The Right Marks in 2019. (And Will in 2020, Too.)

Astrology Hit All The Right Marks

The last year and decade are officially in our wake, and if I’m being honest, astrology his all the right marks. Over the course of this year, I woke up and checked the weather on an app on my phone. I answered an email with my fingertips. I read about the melting icebergs in Greenland on the tiny screen in front of me.

We carry around micro-computers in our pockets, use A.I. home assistants that inform us of traffic we may bump into on our way to work, and can pick up on what’s going on anywhere in the world with the touch of a button.

We’re hyper-connected, and it’s not always a good thing.

Intuitively, I think we know that. As we become more attached to our technologies and continue to endlessly scroll in search of more and more information, the deep-seated wisdom of our souls is prodding us in another direction. After all, we’re meant to live in alignment with our truest, most authentic selves. The deepest part of us is showing us another way.

Astrology is having a moment right now for exactly this reason. This is an ancient language that predates everything. It’s a primordial awakening of knowledge we already have inside ourselves.

At its core, astrology is a remembering, not a learning.

And this part is key. There’s a lot going on in our world right now. In the past couple of years alone, we’ve seen hundreds of thousands of young people march to save our planet, uncovered gross misuses of power and abuse with the #MeToo movement, and seen the rise of racial tension under this current administration (in the U.S., at least). There’s so many stimuli, an endless amount of learning and unlearning, of heartbreak and anxiety, that many of us are dealing with cognitive overload.

Our minds and nervous systems weren’t built to process this much stimuli at once. Remember how a teacher would give you a ton of information in one sitting at school and you had a hard time remembering any of it later on? That’s what we’re dealing with now, only the teacher is the current climate (literally and metaphorically) and the stakes are so much higher.

The good news is that our souls have our backs.

Through this period of intense outward stimulation, our collective intuition is reminding us to turn inward for the answers. In fact, we already have them at our cosmic fingertips; they’re literally hanging in the sky above us. We just have to put the phone down and look up.

On top of that, this ancient, sacred language gives us the words we need to understand what’s happening to us and the world. We may not be able to fathom why our president would order I.C.E to deport immigrants who have been in this country their entire lives or commit war crimes against Iran, but the summer 2019 eclipse in Cancer gives us the words to understand how this could happen and where we can go from here.

Add to that the rise of the Divine Feminine and a slow awakening in the Western world to the idea of time as cyclical instead of linear, and a newfound respect for living in tune with the natural world (think: moon cycles and Ayurveda), it makes sense that astrology fits right in.

All this to say, I believe it’s only up from here for astrology and other ancient practices. The world isn’t slowing down, so we must make it an even greater priority. Only through reflection, understanding, and radical empathy on the individual level can we begin to change what’s happening in the collective.

After all, it’s our responsibility to work toward change in our world if we don’t like what we see. Astrology continues to give us the tools, language, and understanding to do so, throughout 2020 and beyond.
