Spring Equinox 2020: Yes, It’s Hard! But It’s Also An Opportunity For Radical Change

spring equinox 2020

It’s wild out there right now, isn’t it? Between the rapid spread of COVID-19, a contentious election cycle just heating up, along with everyday issues like social inequity and climate change (you know, the usual), it’s a lot.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably been searching for some answers.

For one, how did things get so bad, so quickly? And two, how long will the coronavirus last?

To quote my most recent article in Well + Good; “Truth be told, astrologers have been discussing March of 2020 for a very, very, long time. You see, Saturn, also known as the Lord of Karma, is meeting with Pluto, who represents death and rebirth. Both planets are in Capricorn, the sign of government and business, and this combination creates a heavy-hitting combination that suggests a massive shake to our systems. Then add Jupiter—the largest planet in the solar system to the mix—who makes everything way bigger, and this combination becomes even more inflamed.

While Saturn has been in Capricorn since the end of 2017, and Pluto since 2008, it’s just been in recent months that started to travel in super close proximity. Jupiter on the other hand, who moves much quicker, entered Capricorn on December 2, 2019, and caught up to them very quickly. Now with the three of them all within seven degrees of one another, and Mars, a catalytic planet who represents action, also in the mix, we no longer need to question what will happen in March of 2020.”

A Stellium in Capricorn: Hard Truths For Collective Reconciliation

As we approach the Spring Equinox, Mars (who initially entered into Capricorn on February 16) conjoins Pluto and Jupiter. This stellium in Capricorn is forcing some hard truths about our structures and governance to the forefront. As a collective, we’re forced to reflect on how we got here. The cracks that are showing in our society aren’t new—it’s not like they only popped up when this stellium came into play.

All that’s happening now has been brewing under the surface for years. We’re now seeing the fallout from our unwillingness to face the problems we’ve essentially ignored.

Spring Equinox: A Zodiacal New Beginning

The good news is that we get a bit of a reset come the Equinox. On the day of the Equinox, March 19th, the sun officially moves into Aries, restarting the zodiacal calendar. This is another shot at a new beginning. Even outside of astrology, spring represents new life and fresh blooms after a long, intense winter season. We’ve had so many heavy-hitting planets in earth and water signs since the end of 2019 that adding a bit of fire to the mix will feel like a relief.

On top of that, Saturn moves into Aquarius two days later, on March 21st. This shift into innovative and group-minded Aquarius will also bring forth some much-needed levity, even if it is only temporary. Saturn will be hanging out in the sign of water bearer until July 1st, giving us a taste of how we can come together for the better, before retrograding back into Capricorn until the end of 2020, when it finally peaces out for good (thank goodness).

An Opportunity to Develop Collective Resilience and Grit

All this to say, this isn’t all bad! It’s painful, yes, but we’ll get through it. We need to acknowledge that life as we know it has changed. Go ahead and grieve, for sure, but understand that this process is so, so necessary. We’re learning so much about how our roots are all entwined, that we’re all truly in this together, for better or worse. This is an opportunity to develop our collective resilience and grit. On the other side of this extremely tough time, there’s an invitation to become the very best version of ourselves.

Until then, hold on, love. Let your hope bloom into something beautiful and tender and sustainable. And although we’re all practicing social distancing, please don’t isolate.
