Get your manifestation mojo aligned, because it’s time for the new moon in Pisces. Happening at 9:11 am ET on March 17th, 2018, this is the time of the month when the sun and moon meet at the same degree in the sky to kiss and open a portal of potential and possibility.
This particular new moon happens in the third decan of Pisces—the final degrees of the last sign of the zodiac. This means that as much as this new moon in Pisces is a new beginning, it also signifies an ending. New beginnings require conclusions, so as you eagerly move in the direction of what you most desire, honor what’s coming to a close now, too.
The new moon in Pisces also snuggles up right next to Chiron, the wounded healer. Meanwhile Mars, the planet of action, squares Chiron. This pairing indicates that while this new moon may rub up against a core wound, it also offers tremendous healing capacities.
How apropos for Pisces, the sign of the healer?
Further, with Jupiter in Scorpio making a trine to the sun and moon, this particular new moon incurs the blessing of the most auspicious planet of the solar system. Projects initiated now will have the blessings of this gentle, fortunate giant.
Get Clear On What You Are Feeling
Though it’s common to feel a little blue around new moons as it’s a more introverted time, the upside is it’s a fantastic time for setting new intentions and getting clear on what you are consciously cultivating in your life. Lean into discomfort as it’s pushing you to grow. Stay patient with murky and uncomfortable feelings.
When the sun and moon merge as they do with new moons, yin, and yang, masculine and feminine energy overlap, creating a union between the two. This potency of energy offers ripe conditions for creation. A new cycle commences, and consequently, things shift quickly.
Check Your Addictions At The Door
So far in 2018, I’ve toyed substantially with abstaining from alcohol. Now if you know me, you understand I am a foodie, cocktail-loving human who adores special occasions that call for celebration. (I am a Gemini after all.) So you can imagine my surprise when I woke up on New Year’s Day with clear guidance to abstain. I mean… really? However, I’ve learned how to bow down to my guidance, and I yielded this directly for the first two months of the new year.
Then, as planned, I attended a four-day music festival in the Caribbean to celebrate my husband’s milestone birthday at an all-inclusive resort. Nothing feels better, healthier or more enlivening than dancing to music amidst friends. And I put no limits on that experience.
Setting Boundaries Is Pisces Medicine
However, here’s what I realized: after two months of abstinence juxtaposed against a four-day stint at the Hard Rock in Punta Cana; I like sobriety… like, a lot. I like the way I sleep. I love how I feel day to day. It’s a good vibe.
Surprisingly, as a highly sensitive person, mild amounts of alcohol traditionally haven’t bothered me. Yet, in my personal astrological chart, a few things have shifted. As Neptune (the planet of illusions and dreams, and Pisces’ ruler) moves through Pisces and hangs out on my south node (correlating with past lives and old behaviors) the times, they are a-changin’. So despite this new moon occurring on St. Patrick’s day, I’m initiating a new beginning, predicated on endings, and am drawing a boundary for myself, for now, with alcohol.
What boundary are you inspired to draw for yourself? What are you saying no to in order to say yes to something else?
With Venus aligning to the same degree as Mercury in Aries (Venus represents love, and Mercury rules communication), this new moon offers extra potent mojo to make clear, conscientious choices. And for the first time in 2018, Mercury goes retrograde from March 22nd until April 15th in the sign of Aries; meaning that this new moon falls on the heels of a massive review period. On top of this, Mercury is going retrograde in the sign Uranus has traveled in since 2011, less than two months before Uranus leaves Aries for Taurus.
This is a big, gigantic, massive deal. (More on this in a future post).
Not to mention, right after this new moon, Mars (the planet that rules Aries) moves into Capricorn, and gets ready to meet up with Saturn.
Saturn, the taskmaster, in Capricorn, pushes for firm boundaries.
So prepare yourself now, because karma rules this new moon and the weeks that follow. Now’s the time to initiate new beginnings by honoring endings, especially as Jupiter makes a perfect angle to the sun and moon, auspicating your new beginning.
Here are nine things you can do this new moon to conjure magic intuition, freedom, art, sensitivity, music, poetry; all things the sign of the fish is known for:
1. Have a new moon ritual:
Before engaging any ritual, clean and organize your space. Straightening up and getting rid of clutter sets the tone for the ceremony. Once your space is set, conjure a connection to the Divine. Call upon a connection to the source energy you feel supports you the most: guides, angels, or any other divine connection. Journaling is powerful now, so write down the things in your life you either wish to call in or are ready to release. The next step is to read your desires out loud—the stuff you want to call into your life now. Speaking aloud about them plays a crucial role in bringing them to life. Now that you’ve let go and made space for what you truly desire, it’s time to meditate on it. Sit quietly, follow your breath, and visualize your desires coming to fruition. Check out this blog for detailed instructions on how to have your own moon ritual.
2. Embrace creativity and listen to music:
My colleague and world-renowned psychic, Colette Baron Reid recently wrote and recorded these three songs (the first three in the soundcloud link) with her band NOT US. She named her band this to honor the muses that helped her write these songs. I had the honor of giving her a reading at the exact moment of the recent solar eclipse, and she left the reading and recorded these insanely awesome songs. This is an example of working with energy as it’s inviting us! I highly recommend checking them out, as they’re perfect for this Pisces new moon. And SO SO beautiful. If you like Kate Bush or Tori Amos, you’ll love Colette. She’s a super talented singer. She’s also one hell of an oracle card deck creator too! She just released this new deck, a perfect new moon in Pisces treat for yourself.
3. Check out a sensory deprivation float tank:
Floating in salt water is so Pisces! If you don’t have access to a sensory deprivation float tank, set yourself up to have a luscious bath with Epsom salts and essential oils, or even a soothing shower. If you’re fortunate enough to live in a place where the ocean is warm right now, go for a new moon dip! Nothing beats connecting with water when working with the moon, especially when it’s a new moon in Pisces.
4. Clear your home by burning sage:
I clear my home often by burning sage. It helps to set the tone for my day and refreshes the energy of my space so that I can be more relaxed and aligned with my intuition. Use white sage and a heat-proof, fireproof vessel to contain it. Hold the sage in your hand, and using a match or a lighter, light the sage on the farthest tip from your hand. Once the sage starts to burn and smoke, blow out any flames and holding your fire-proof vessel in your other hand, walk around the perimeter of your space using your vessel to catch any ash that might fall. Once you’ve traced the perimeter, place your sage in its fireproof vessel on your altar. You can extinguish it yourself or let it extinguish itself naturally.
5. Forgive others (even if you don’t think they deserve it):
This new moon helps you to process your emotions and become crystalline clear on how you can better incorporate your intuition in your life as release any self-sabotaging behaviors that keep you locked in a victim role; facilitating your ability to heal, forgive and move on. On the highest level, this energy is all about the dissolution of ego and finding unity with the other.
6. Give yourself a luscious foot massage:
Pisces rules the feet, so take some time to connect with your soles (get it?). You can do this while you bathe, or this can be a perfect self-care routine post-bath. Use a small amount of castor oil and begin caressing your left foot gently. After your foot is sufficiently oiled, begin to massage more intensely. Get in between the bones on the top and bottom of your feet, around your heel and ankle, and down the inner and outer arch. Remember to pay attention to each toe, as well as the webbing between them. Once you feel fully connected to your left foot, move on and do the same for your right foot. After you complete both feet, put on a pair of warm socks and let the oil continue to soothe your soles.
7. Hang out with an animal:
Animal communication goes a long way today. If you don’t have a furbaby yourself, reach out to a friend who does. Offer to walk their dog or babysit their cat. Or if you have a furry friend of your own, be sure to give them extra attention and love today. If allergies keep you from loving on our feline and canine friends, watch a show with baby animals or even do a quick Google search for your favorite kind of animals online.
8. Prioritize Sleep:
If you’ve already bathed, meditated, massaged your feet, and snuggled with an animal, then you might be ready to hit the hay. And if you are, you’re right on schedule. New moons are a great time to tune into your sleep rhythm and honor your full eight hours. Set the mood. Anoint yourself with essential oils like lavender and bergamot for grounding and relaxation, then crawl into bed and enjoy your Piscean dreamscape. You’ll thank yourself tomorrow.
